Experience the stories and songs of legendary American composer, Marvin Hamlisch, as he takes center stage at the Saroyan for San Joaquin Valley Town Hall’s 75th birthday celebration. Best known as a composer, Hamlisch has written major works for film, stage, recordings, and the concert hall. As conductor, he has led the great orchestras of the world, and performs onstage as pianist and entertainer.
Hamlisch has won virtually every major award: three Oscars, four Grammys, four Emmys, one Tony and three Golden Globe awards. Composing for Broadway in They’re Playing Our Song, The Goodbye Girl, and Sweet Smell of Success; he also composed more than 40 motion picture scores including his Oscar-winning score and song for The Way We Were, and original compositions for Sophie’s Choice and Ordinary People.
His groundbreaking show, A Chorus Line, received the Pulitzer Prize and he adapted Scott Joplin’s music for The Sting, for which he received a 3rd Oscar.
